DESIGN CONCEPT & CLIENT BRIEF: The Row is a fashion house created by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen in New York City. The fashion house is looking to expand their international presence and decided that Vancouver’s market is a perfect location for a new retail space. The fashion house sells high-end womenswear and menswear focusing on timeless style with minimalistic shapes. The products included in the retail space include clothes, shoes, bags and jewelry. The Row also partners with art and design galleries showcasing and selling their products. The Row utilizes their storefronts for those galleries to expose their artists and designers. A minimalist style is therefore reflected in the design and architecture of each of The Row’s retail spaces. All of their retail spaces share a similar minimalist aesthetic, with a twist representing the city where the retail space is located. For the Vancouver storefront the main concept is reflecting the British Columbian culture through the use of natural local materials and indigenous artworks.
