pirate ship - complex illustration

During one of our 1st term Graphic Design assignments, this final composition came up. Objective of this assignment was to use as many tools and effects as possible in Adobe Illustrator. After choosing the main theme, I focused on the different "path" tools, including rectangles, circles and free objects using the regular pen tool. For coloring the sails and the main background I used different gradients. The moon itself I placed in as a PNG file which I masked out in Photoshop. The idea for the main theme came across due I study "Graphic Design" as an international student in Vancouver, far away from family and friends. It motivates me to see that the path I choose is not a lonely one, moreover it is a path focusing on my personal goals. Feel free to ask any questions about this illustration or any kind of graphic design related topics. Thank you
