Inspired From the painting, "The Ball on shipboard", painted by James Tissot (c.1874), we were to design an epoch appropriate day dress for a young lady in 1870-1875 Paris, France, using primarily linen. The corset and bustle were complete outside of school, during our summer break.
Babette De la Croix
Babette is a pieces, her birthday is the 13 of March and she will be 23 in a few days. Daughter of Madame Augustine Devereux and General Etienne De la Croix, Babette wants to attend a ball and meet her true love, just as her parents did. A young man from down the street, is enchanted by her beauty and wits, he makes her perfumes in pretty glass bottles. Babette, being active and sporty, with archery, croquet and riding horses, does not wear a lot of jewellery. Often creating troublesomely adventures for herself, as she is a dreamer with a vivid imagination. She is very passionate and connected to nature, tending her garden is her favourite thing to do, she is aspiring to have award winning Lilies Of The Valley. Sometimes she plays her violin in the garden to help it grow. Idealistic and waiting for her perfect match, dating is not of interest to her really. She is highly intelligent and well educated, enjoys political topics of discussion,and also has a smart mouth. Babette exudes romance, elegance and femininity with her love for cosmetics, lace fans, dainty parasols and lots of shoes! She is sweet natured, easy going and with a vivacious existence, set to take on life.
