Designer Homage Project

The Designer Homage project is to create a series of packages using custom design typeface to celebrate the experimental typographer—David McLeod. The challenge of this project is to use experimental type to create something new from his design style, which is building 3D letters by using different materials and creating shapes from different lines. The Spiral Zone branding is inspired by the shape of the product. The different titles Glow, Blaze and Burn and their respective colors green, orange, and red on the packages identify different wattages of the bulb inside. Each title is built into the shape of an energy saving light bulb with neon effect. The number of wattages is created in 3D style and combined with script style writing to pay tribute to David’s great contribution to the design world. A letter shape die-cut is on each of package to let people see the product. The 3 letters from individual package combine to make the word “HOT”, which represent the package series and the energy of the glowing light bulbs.
