Movement Project- Theatrical dance scene- Fairytale.

I chose to adapt the story of The Beauty & the Beast to be able to represent my vision of a futuristic fairytale. Consequently, my story will revolve around such a vision. The fairy, taking an important place in the story, will use her magical power on the Beauty. Indeed, every time she will look in her mirror, she’ll see her future. What a beautiful bright future she had! She would be living a happy life with the prince in a beautiful castle. Unfortunately, her happiness came at a price. Her sisters kept getting more and more jealous of her and, consequently, became more and more wicked. My orientation in this project was based on one of the sisters. I decided to work on her costume to represent her bad personality. It will communicate some futuristic details, structure, exaggeration and fabric manipulation. Firstly, I was attracted by the idea of adding some smoking manipulation. My inspiration pushed me to manipulate to smoking to make it look like a spider web. Such a detail would reflect the point of view I’d like to demonstrate throughout the story. Moreover, I decided to use layered superpositions to represent the sister’s multiple personalities while adding an elegant yet sneaky and luxuriousness touch. Indeed, this touch will represent the fact that, being the sister’s princess, she cares about her appearance and the high living. Also, I would like to make the sister appear in a dance scene, and to achieve that I decide to add distressed bands that will be attached to her hands. Such distressed and smoked bands will portray a woman caught in a spider web. Also, I’ll be adding a headpiece that will hold and cover half of her face, which will portray the spider’s legs. Such a portrayal will establish the clean cut comparison between the evil sister and the spider.
